Luis Monteiro has a Dental Medicine Degree (2001) from the IUCS. a MSc in Oncology (2007) from the ICBAS. and a PhD (and European PhD) in Pathology and Forensic Sciences (2010) from the USC, Spain. He has an European Master in Laser Applications in Odontostomatology from the University of Parma, Italy and Diploma in Oral Medicine by the European Association of Oral Medicine (EAOM). He is Specialist in Oral Surgery from the Portuguese Dental Association (OMD).
As current position he is Auxiliar Professor at the IUCS in Periodontal and Surgical Clinic, Oral Pathology and Biopathology. Director of the UNIPRO - Oral Pathology and Rehabilitation Research Unit at IUCS, Coordinator of the Postgraduate course in Laser Applications in Dental Medicine and also Coordinator of the Postgraduate course in Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology at IUCS, CESPU.
He is founder and President of Portuguese Society of Oral Laser Aplications (SPALO), Member of the board of World Federation of Laser in Dentistry – European Division (WFLD-ED), Member of the Board (representative of region 4) of the European Association of Oral Medicine (EAOM) and Member of the Board (vice-president) of the APMO (Portuguese Academy of Oral Medicine).
He develops its scientific and academic activity in the areas of oral biopathology specially investigating oral potentially malignant disorders and oral cancers, oral laser applications, new adjunct tools for oral diagnosis and population extent methodologies for oral cancer prevention. He is editor, editorial board member and reviewer of several scientific journal of the area and also with several publications on his areas of interest.
