Luis Monteiro is Associate Professor in Medicine and Oral Surgery Department and responsible of the Units of Biopathology in Dental Medicine Degree Certification at Instituto Universitário de Ciências da Saúde (IUCS), Oporto, Portugal. He is also Director of UNIPRO, The Research Unit of Oral Pathology and Rehabilitation and Professor (as supervisor and tutorial guidance of thesis project unit) in the Biology Sciences PhD at Instituto Universitário de Ciências da Saúde (IUCS), Oporto, Portugal. He is the coordenator of the Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology Post-graduation programm and also of the Oral Laser Aplications Post-graduation programm, both at Instituto Universitário de Ciências da Saúde (IUCS), Oporto, Portugal. He is Researcher (PI) in the Oral Cancer Research and Oral Diseases Group at UNIPRO at Instituto Universitário de Ciências da Saúde (IUCS), Oporto, Portugal, in the areas of: 1) molecular biopathology of the potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer; 2) oral cancer epidemiology in Portugal; 3) early detection of oral cancer (screenings and prevention initiatives); and 4) Laser aplications in Oral Medicine. Luis Monteiro has a Dental Medicine Degree at Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde Norte, Oporto, Portugal (2001), Master Degree (MSc) in Oncology at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar, Universidade do Porto, Oporto, PhD and European PhD diploma certification in Pathology and Forensic Sciencies at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain (2010), an European Master Degree in Laser Aplications in Odontostomatology at Università degli Study di Parma, Italy (2012) and the Speciality title in Oral Surgery of the Portuguese Dental Association (OMD) (2017). Other actual functions include roles as Member of the National Portuguese Program on Oral Cancer Early Detection (PIPCO), Member of the Board Direction of the Portuguese Academy of Oral Medicine (APMO), General Secretary 2017-2020) and President of General Assembly (2021 to present) of the Lasertherapy Association and related technologies (ALTEC), President of Portuguese Society of Oral Laser Applications (SPALO), and Member of the board of World Federation of Laser in Dentistry European Division (WFLD-ED) and member of the board of European Association on Oral Medicine (EAOM). He also participate in the editorial board activities/review of several scientific journals and have contributed for the dissemination of scientific knowledge with more than 330 scientific works (articles, posters/oral communications) at international and national level, with a H-index score (Scopus) of 20, with 1318 citations. He performs clinical practice at Clinical Units of IUCS (including the Department of Stomatology in Centro Hospitalar do Tâmega e Sousa, Oporto, Portugal) and also Private Clinic of Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery and Oral Laser Applications in the North of Portugal (CPC).
