Abstract:

Implant-supported prostheses can be accomplished through screw- or cement-retained cements, depending on aesthetic conditions and clinical protocols. Recently, the use of resin cements with antimicrobials has been studied for inhibiting the accumulation of biofilms and inflammatory reactions at the peri-implant region. The purpose of this project is to evaluate the adhesive interfaces and biofilm inhibition at implant-supported prostheses cemented with antimicrobial resin-based cements. This project involves an initial step on computational studies of different materials, focusing on the selection of antimicrobial cements with adequate physical properties. Then, prosthetic structures will be connected and cemented to prepare specimens for microscopic inspection and antimicrobial validation via traditional methods. The results are promising considering the effect of different cements against bacterial adhesion and accumulation at the peri-implant region.
